![]() ![]() Especially when you get them while your opponent is still stuck with wooden hulls. Please share any naval insights you may have. Their manuverability is pretty shoddy as well, which perhaps contributes to the problem. So I ask here: what are some good naval strategies? Are there even good naval strategies beyond "build the most first?" Judging from my limited experience, naval battles seem less about tactics and more about who has the most of each ship type. I tried resorting to air power but found it suprisingly ineffective against the ships (those destroyers really tear up planes).īecause of the constant blockade of both enemy players I was unable to get troops off my island and unable to break the blockade (this was as British even, a pretty competitive naval power I'd think). Unfortunately I didn't take full advantage of the respite and was soon set upon by dreadnoughts and submarines of the enemies, resulting in the eventual blockade of my coast again. ![]() ![]() I thought I had gained the upperhand when I teched to submarines and pumped out a fleet of those and destroyed the blockade. ![]() I built varieties and counters, but their forces were so overwhelming they always had the counters for my counters and so they rarely were able to serve their purpose (plus replacing those damn fireships all the time is annoying and expensive!). It would usually dent the opposition but the computer would replace it's ships nearly instantly while I had to rebuild from scratch. I used all the strategies that seem to work so well for land-based forces: I'd garrison the ships in the dock until I had a good force and then I'd unleash it. Unfortunately its difficult to build a navy of any sorts with the entire naval force of two major powers sitting on your shoreline, so I spent the entire game frantically throwing resources into my navy just to have them sink to the bottom of the sea. I had dock boomed and hence a large portion of my early economy relied on the sea, and when the computer started aggressing agaisnt my poor fishing boats, I didn't have the time or resources to orchestrate a defense (especially since I was being double teamed and my computer ally was useless). It was evident that my loss came from my lack of naval power from the very beginning. After losing an otherwise pretty even game with me and an AI vs 2 tougher AIs, I analyzed the cause of my loss. ![]()
